Apple has unleashed Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard offering new features and applications that make it easier for organisations to collaborate, communicate, and share information.

With the powerful 64-bit operating system users can effortlessly share files, schedule meetings and events, exchange instant messages, send and receive mail on the Internet, access the organizationʼs network remotely, publish podcasts, and host websites, wikis, and blogs.

Apple claims Snow Leopard Server is up to twice as fast as its predecessor, improving performance for file sharing, mail, web hosting, and more.

TOP FEATURES INCLUDE

Simplified administration. Quickly manage users, groups, and services from anywhere on your network, and easily monitor your server with the Server Status Dashboard widget.

iCal Server 2. Share calendars, coordinate events, and schedule meetings within a workgroup, a small business, or a large corporation.

Address Book Server. Based on CardDAV, Address Book Server lets you synchronize and access contacts across multiple computers.

Podcast Producer 2. Capture, encode, publish, and distribute podcasts with ease—perfect for employee training, university lectures, presentations, and more.

Wiki Server 2. Create your own wiki-powered website to easily collaborate and communicate within your group. Use your iPhone to securely log in to view confidential wikis and content.

Mobile Access Server. Ensure secure remote access to your business network from anywhere. Use your organizationʼs existing directory service for authentication—no extra client software required.

It’s official Spotify for the iPhone has been approved by Apple and will be available soon according to the Spotify blog.

“We’re now thrilled to let you know that the lovely people at Apple have given our mobile app a big thumbs up, meaning that our Premium subscribers in the UK, Sweden, France, Spain, Norway and Finland will be able to download Spotify for free from the App Store soon.”  says Jonatan Littke on the Spotify blog.

Spotify on the iPhone will include many of the features of the desktop version, with the added benefit of allowing users to listen to playlists even  when they haven’t got a network connection, for instance when on the tube or a plane.

Spotify for the iPhone will only be available for premium subscribers (currently £9.99 per month) so if you’re used to using the ‘free with ads’ version of Spotify you’ll be out of luck.
